Like every year, Durga Puja was held with grandeur at ‘Mallick Bari’
Kolkata, 4th Sep: Durga Puja celebrations with actor Ranjit Mallick’s residence in Bhowanipore known as ‘Mallick Bari’ is among the most sought-after places to visit for the residents from Kolkata throughout Durga Puja.
This year the tradition continues with the following rituals. Many people including Tollywood celebrities get invited and visit the place. And like every year Durga Puja is being celebrated in Mallick Bari this year too.
Recently, the girl from her home Koel Mallick shared a few pictures taken at Mallick Bari Durga Puja, which included father Ranjit Mallick as well as mother Deepa Mallick, husband Nispal Singh, and her son Kabir.
The Durga puja of Mallick family started around the time of Nawab Hussein Shah of Bengal nearly around the 15th century AD. Every year the Mallick’s worship the goddess in the ekchala pattern. The artisan Nobo Pal of Kumartuli has been making idols for them for a long time There are two different locations in Mallick bari where the Durga puja’s rituals are performed. They are ‘Durga dalan’ and ‘Annapurna dalan’. The festivity of the Durga puja, apart from uniting the family, gives them a reason to look forward to the next year that promises re-unions and family bonding.
Being Vaishnavas, the mallicks take purely vegetarian food during the puja days. But on Dashami, when the idol is taken to the Ganga for immersion Mallicks turn to Non-veg. They do not perform the ritual of sacrificing animals. The cuisine does not include any preparations made with rice. The delicious Bhog and other mouth-watering dishes like Luchi, Chhanar dalna, Alu fulkopir tarkari are being prepared in Mallick bari’s kitchen by the cook. The women of the family supervise the whole process with huge enthusiasm.
