Kolkata, 01 Sep 2022: The 50th National Conference of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India is being held in Kolkata from 1-3 September. This year the theme of this conference is CS: World Guru of Good Governance and Prosperity. This institution started from 1972 under the hands of the then Prime Minister Shri VV Giri. And since then it has been doing justice to the reputation and efficient code of conduct. This year, in its 50th edition, the 3-day hybrid convention chose as its main objective to explore the exemplary role of company secretaries in strengthening the country’s governance structure in the coming years. It will also be used as a forum for interaction between regulators, academics, industry leaders, professionals and other stakeholders to discuss the growing impact of emerging technologies. It is noted here that the selected topics will be discussed which are considered to be very relevant in the coming days. They are as follows: Legal and Judicial Reforms: Emphasis on revitalizing governance and stability. CS: India Corporate Governance and Fostering Corporate Excellence.Company secretaries are expecting to widen their scope of work and include dispute resolution in commercial and even individual cases such as family disputes related to business.The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) plans to set up at least 20 centres across India over the next 12 months, including one in Calcutta to facilitate dispute resolution in line with the guidance of the union law ministry.“Commercial disputes keep on happening and cases remain stuck in court. We have taken a decision that we should open Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) centres. The launch is happening today. “A pilot project will take place in Hyderabad. The plan is to have 20 such centres over the next year,” said ICSI president Devendra Deshpande who was in the city for the 50th national convention of company secretaries.
